Singapore, multicultural and dynamic<\/span><\/h3>\n

With a population of around 5.8 million inhabitants, Singapore may be a small market, but it’s a very <\/span>dynamic <\/b>one! In fact, this small <\/span>Southeast Asian country<\/b> is one of the most prosperous in Asia. With a majority <\/span>Chinese population<\/b> (over 75%), followed by a <\/span>Malaysian <\/b>and <\/span>Indian diaspora<\/b>, Singapore is also <\/span>highly multicultural<\/b>, thanks to a large number of expatriates. As well as being home to a financially well-off population, this little corner of Asia is also home to the highest number of millionaires on the continent.<\/span><\/p>\n

Singapore, time to eat!<\/span><\/h3>\n

The Asian continent is generally renowned for its <\/span>culinary arts<\/b>. Singapore is no exception! The <\/span>young population<\/b>, aged between 25 and 35, has high purchasing power and a keen interest in<\/span> cuisine<\/b> and <\/span>culinary discoveries<\/b>! And where there’s food, there’s wine !<\/span><\/p>\n

French wines and Asian cuisine<\/span><\/h3>\n

French wines<\/b> are very popular in Singapore, despite the high ‘sin taxe’ on <\/span>alcoholic products<\/b>. <\/span>Red wines<\/b> are particularly popular, especially those made from <\/span>Pinot Noir<\/b>. Unsurprisingly, <\/span>Burgundy <\/b>wines are the trend! <\/span>100% Pinot noir red wines<\/b>,<\/span> fine<\/b> and <\/span>elegant<\/b>, ideal for<\/span> Cantonese cuisine<\/b> in particular!<\/span><\/p>\n

Bordeaux wines<\/b> are also well known and appreciated in Singapore. But not just any wines… <\/span>Grands Vins <\/b>and <\/span>premium wines<\/b> are in demand. In fact, some of the great names of Bordeaux winegrowing can be found on Singapore tables, and demand is growing fast!<\/span><\/p>\n

Growing demand for organic and biodynamic wines<\/span><\/h2>\n

In addition to the popularity of <\/span>French wines<\/b>, renowned for their <\/span>high quality<\/b>, interest in <\/span>organic and biodynamic viticulture<\/b> is growing. Singaporeans are becoming aware of the importance of<\/span> healthy eating<\/b>, and are interested in wines for their own sake too. <\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to their interest in <\/span>healthy consumption<\/b>, the population – and young people in particular – are keen to learn more about <\/span>oenology<\/b>. Demand for classes on <\/span>food and wine pairing<\/b>, <\/span>viticulture<\/b> and <\/span>sommellerie <\/b>is growing. Demand for <\/span>wine-tasting sessions<\/b> is also growing. This goes hand in hand with an affluent population interested in <\/span>luxury products<\/b>. Yes, <\/span>French wine<\/b> remains a luxury in <\/span>Southeast Asia<\/b>!<\/span><\/p>\n

Singapore: a strategic location for the Southeast Asian wine trade<\/span><\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

As a true <\/span>hub of trade in Southeast Asia<\/b>, Singapore is in an absolutely <\/span>strategic position<\/b> to exchange and trade with other countries. As far as the <\/span>wine trade<\/b> in particular is concerned, countries such as Vietnam<\/strong>, Malaysia<\/strong>, Indonesia<\/strong>, Myanmar<\/strong>, Laos<\/strong>, Korea<\/strong> and China<\/strong> often source their products from Singapore<\/strong>. This gives them the assurance that their products are <\/span>genuine<\/b> and not counterfeit.<\/span><\/p>\n

A true king of international logistics in terms of organization and infrastructure, Singapore remains dependent on international trade. In fact, in 2016, 90% of the food consumed in Singapore was imported.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wine import<\/span><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

Although Singaporeans like to accompany their meals with a <\/span>good bottle of wine<\/b>, local production is non-existent. While 90% of consumer products are imported, the figure for wine is 100%. <\/span>France is Singapore’s 4th largest wine exporter<\/b>, after Germany, China and the United States. It dominates the <\/span>Premium wine market<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wine trade in Singapore: growing interest in e-commerce<\/span><\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

In Singapore, wine is consumed not only in <\/span>restaurants <\/b>and<\/span> wine bars<\/b>, but also at home! Especially since the Covid episode. Singaporeans’ preferred distribution channel is <\/span>e-commerce<\/b>, ahead of <\/span>wine shops<\/b>! This distribution channel is growing fast, and Asians are very comfortable with e-commerce, which has become an integral part of everyday life over the past few years. <\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to the advantages of speed and immediacy, e-commerce helps to reduce certain costs. E-commerce enables merchants to offer<\/span> better prices to consumers<\/b>, who are already obliged to pay a fairly hefty tax on alcoholic products.<\/span><\/p>\n

It has to be said that trading in alcoholic products is not that simple. Not only are taxes high, but the <\/span>marketing of wine<\/b> is highly restricted and its promotion forbidden on programs aimed at young consumers, or even on Malaysian programs. In this region of Southeast Asia, the Muslim population represents around 40% of the total population.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
